The design

Shoe construction has hardly changed since the 19th century. With old techniques still implemented , certain areas have been modernised. An introduction of CAD and CAM has introduced innovative ways to create our own desired patterns of designs in-house on the wooden frame that should be well fitted,

The Leather

The prime step to constructing any pair of BONFORD shoes is using the highest quality, top-grain leather. An experienced team of clickers is hired to follow up on our next step which is cutting and shaping the leather

Once the last is finalized by the team, the upper and lining leather pattern is cut according to the last design by our expertise with outmost precision and then the leather is mounted on the last to build a sample with an exact shape.

The Sole

The next step is the arrangement of sole in shoes. The insoles and soles are cut from leather bends using the heavy presses. This step involves the preparation of the rib, that is attached to the insole and onto which the welt

The LAST

Next step is the lasting department, where the Arca finally proceeds to take its shape. The upper that is cut out of the leather is reconciled with the last finalized by the management team of designers in-house.

It is crucial for the upper to be correctly aligned for 4-5 weeks, before it is side-lasted by hand to give a shoe a perfect unique shape.

The WELT

The upper is tackled onto the last and bottom of the shoes are inserted with cork and metal shanks into the cavity underneath to provide insulation. This construction is completed by attaching the soles and stitching through the welt

This construction is completed by attaching the soles and stitching through the welt. After attaching the soles, the process of “bottom levelling” moulds the soles to the shape of the last. The heels are attached in the finishing room. They are trimmed and rubbed several times with emery paper to create the smoothest finishing.

The Bonford shine

In the final stage, the soles are edge-trimmed. The soles and heels are painted and the edges are coated with hot wax to waterproof and seal the leather. The shoes are hand polished and hand brushed by our skilled craftsmen giving a vintage sense of look and feel that goes unnoticeable. The natural color of the shoes stay intact without spoiling the premium quality of leather.

Finally the soles are edge-trimmed. The soles and heels are painted and the edges are coated with hot wax to waterproof and seal the leather. The shoes are hand polished and hand brushed by our skilled craftsmen.
